Storytelling
The best media products tell a clear story. What story will your product tell?
These features can give you a good grip on things:
-
The story can stand on its own, and has a beginning, middle and end.
-
The story is coherent.
-
The story is based on a central question, conflict, dilemma, events, etc.
-
The story is authentic and stimulating.
Diversity in storytelling can be achieved in this way:
-
Choose an original angle and approach your topic in a different way.
-
Interview someone, who is not immediately obvious.
-
Use strong images and avoid clichés.
-
Use music suitable for supporting your media product.
These are valid golden rules: Think about your story. Ask yourself what do you want to tell? And how? Dare to go outside of the box.
TIP: Make a storyboard. A storyboard is a short visual presentation of your story. This is especially useful when you are making a video. You compile your story into a few drawings that will provide an initial presentation of the video you want to make.
